FF VII advent children sucks
Well i stayed up all night to watch it. As i expected, it sucked. Even though i had a feeling that it would suck, i kept hoping for it to be good, cos i knew its a final fantasy movie thats actually going to be final fantasy, unlike the other one which we all know isnt final fantasy at all and is totally sucky.
It started off pretty ok. Opening credits showed that music was by NOBUO UEMATSUO and that really got my hopes up. As expected music throughout was top notch, was i would have expected from nobuo. It was really, really nostalgic to hear all the familiar tunes again, in their rearranged glory. I REALLY LIKED THE MUSIC. They even ended the movie with Kyosuke himura's "calling" which i thought was a great song. Animation too, is top notch, as you would expect is top notch from Square (as a side note, they really REALLY beautified Tifa to no ends in the movie. I guess that does more good than bad, especially for guys i guess). The plot started off pretty ok too, and my hopes were pretty high...
However as it went along everything just crumbled. As i said, the animation is great, the action scenes are really well done, the music rocks, there's even quite abit of humour they managed to put into the show. BUT the plot and its overall development sucked. Its lame and weak and had no impact. I should have known, this movie was going to be an action flick more than anything else. But still i couldnt help but feel disappointed. Personally i just cant like a movie, no matter how great the music was, how much eye candy it had, or nostalgic it was, unless it has an at least decent plot or development. I was very annoyed at how the plot always manages to take a turn for the lame side at many points in the story.
Bottom line, i really hoped that they made a 3 or 4 episode movie, something like Lord of the rings style, of the original ff7, or ff8, or ff6, or any other ff, or even a totally new ff-like story instead. It would have been much better, they would have more space and time to develop the plot, or add more impact to the show. As it stands now, its just an animation movie in which familiar characters come back for a short action flick. To me it was just another forgettable movie.

wow, this sounds exactly like all final fantasy games. graphics, music, and nothing else. no gameplay, no story. luckily i didn't waste my time with it.
I haven't watched it yet! hahaz... ><
ff games dont suck... at least not till ffx-2
Okie the story may suck.. summore no chocobo cameo appearances.. but e graphics n animation were awesome! fighting scenes are LOOONG n over e top.. not that i m complainin. Tifa n Aeris were so beautiful.. Damn if only there is a PS3 remake of FFVII..
-_-" no comments about e games stuff, hardly play games nowadays (sad sia)
hey, seriously, why guys like to play com games so much ah?? i dun seem to get it...
hahahz, shuying, have you tried cute computer games then? For example, Maple Story or GunBound?
Hehz, watched it liaoz, love the graphics! But I dun understand the show! hahahaz... never played FF7 before, totally no idea. And yeah, keep hearing ppl talking about Chocobos, but how come never get to see them in the show?
How come the ppl in the show can seem to keep flying around? Gravity doesn't exist in the show hahahz...

To me a movie is a combination of plot and presentation. No matter how good the fighting is if the plot has too many loopholes, no amount of eye candy can make me like the show.
>>spoilers<<
the way cloud finished off the summoned creature was damn lame... very lame.
if the guy could transform into sephiroth why did he do it only AFTER he lost to cloud? if i was him i would have did it immediately after i got the head, or at least at the church, where i had clearly enough time to do it
its stupid to see cloud fighting sephiroth all by himself. you dont fight last bosses with one character in a game, or story, or whatsoever, when you have a full team behind you. Especially coming straight from another boss battle. And its damn lame how the full team chose to watch on and "leave it to cloud" even when sephiroth appeared and cloud was in danger of losing.
and the lamest is the last part where he gets shot, and on top of that, gets blown up, and yet magically teleports to the church totally unhurt. Just because aeris showed up for a short scene. I've seen fairy tales which are less lame. If you wanna kill him off, kill him off. if you wanna make it a happy ending, just end it when he kills sephiroth. Adding in some lame ass twist at the end of the show is just going to spoil the show.
No doubt technically and artistically it was a rather fantastic film. But as a movie, i think it needs to be better.
SUBJECT: FF VII AC ROCKS
And thus springs the balancing argument. Hehe... Hey, I did not invest my time in FFVII for nothing!
Music was fantastic, and even a bigger treat for FFVII fans such as myself. If you remember, the soundtrack was in fact just a mix of sound effects. Even so, Nobuo Uematsuo had achieved his peak with captivating pieces. With the orchestration of the old pieces, fans are lifted to a greater height of enjoyment. (Excluding "Calling". Not a score of FFVII.)
Oh yeah, Tifa's has grown. No more "looks cute, but mature" attitude. No complains though, because Tifa's honest feelings are still well expressed through the voice and expression. (The original game had her movements expressed really well.) The strength of Tifa's spirit remains.
Plot WAS weak, but meaningful. I have taken the view of AC as a direct continuation of FFVII w/o a break, and not as a stand alone. There is no real need to develop/explain the existing characters. Cloud's guilt was very real. Cloud's growth was as usual strong (remember "I try it.") "Tifa's worry for Cloud is not unfounded. Marlene has grown, and as usual fond of Tifa, and critical of Cloud. Perhaps what was needed is Denzel's character and relationship with everyone. It was rather discomforting to accept Denzel's character till his wishing for Cloud to return at the fight with Bahamut.
Concerning the confusion in show:-
- Kadaj only transformed after he was defeated because he made a mistake like all defeated men did - underestimating the enemy. If you had won every skirmish against him, took his powers (materias) and highly skilled yourself, would you bother to strengthen yourself before the fight?
- the team had left the scene of fight b4 Sephiroth appeared. They rushed back, only to find that Cloud has already succeeded in beating Sephiroth back.
- This is not the first time Cloud had been left in the Lifestream. The skirmish must have blown Cloud into the debris below, landing into the Lifestream. It's possible since Midgar was the stand-off point against the Meteor and the Lifestream. Aeris' (and Zack and maybe other 'life') led him back into the church.
It is VERY FFVII to leave ends unexplained, so it's a culture I've grown to understand too. Haha...
